SUPPORTED LIVING
Our supported living services helps to provide a relaxed environment in a family home for adults that suffer with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems. We want to empower our tenants by providing them with the freedom of choice to be able to strengthen their independence, dignity, confidence and self-esteem. We work with councils and boroughs, and social workers and health professionals to assist with the transitions for the adults to ensure that the process is smooth, but also that we can offer support and encouragement for these adults to be able to capitalise on and maximise their full potential, at their own pace. Our accommodations are fitted with a large communal lounge, a large kitchen and a large conservatory, and a widescreen TV, alongside a visitor’s room for adults to have privacy with their families and community support teams.
We support our tenants’ independence with living in similar and therefore familiar surroundings of their own homes through community integration, where we supervise and encourage participation in a variety of sporting and social activities in the community, all through person-centred support.
We aim to provide care and support focusing on the individual and their needs, while also encouraging choice and control so that young people are allowed to make decisions which will be supported, and supporting learning, which allows young people to experience new activities and learn new skills. Our care approach values and fosters good relationships, also encouraging communication and promoting a healthy lifestyle through the importance of healthy living. We also support young people to increase their independence through reiterating road safety and transport, living skills, shopping and cooking, tidying up and cleaning, doing laundry, budgeting, and social skills. We encourage socialising through accessing social events and meeting new people, helping to understand interaction with others and social etiquette, awareness of social boundaries and appropriate behaviour within the community, and behavioural management. We assist with behavioural management by preparing and using individuals plans, including dealing with behaviour such as aggressiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness, anger, depression, and anxiety.
